The Design Exchange's - Summer Design Camp

Recently, we welcomed the campers from The Design Exchange's Summer Design Camp. For the second season in a row, budding designers came to our studio to see first hand, the business of fashion. We love to see such love and eagerness for design at such a young age. Before the campers left the studio we gave them goody bags full of fabric to help in their wonderful creations. These are a few pictures of what they put together, great job guys!

The camp is such a great opportunity for young designers of all ages to see not only what the industry is like, but to hone their design skills. Looking forward to next year!

Lovely Lusitania

The summer season is winding down, and as the studio fills with excitement for the fall collection, we have been reflecting on what a wonderful season it has been. Sunny days have been enjoyed in our favorite Dagg and Stacey pieces, and with only a few short weeks left we want to wear our beloved summer dresses, like the soft and pretty Lusitania, as much as we can. Each time we see it, it reminds us of the beautiful day we did our photoshoot.

These are a few of our Favorite Things - July Edition

To Hear: The Dead Weather

As The Dead Weather show at the Kool Haus approaches we are getting excited by blasting tracks from their Horebound album. Check out their debut single "Hang You From the Heavens" above.

To See: The Toronto Music Garden

The Toronto Music Garden, created in collaboration with eminent cellist Yo-Yo Ma, is a three-acre public park on Toronto's Harbourfront. The garden design interprets in nature Bach’s First Suite for Unaccompanied Cello, with each dance movement within the suite corresponding to a different section in the garden. Lush fields of grass, brightly-coloured perennials and beautiful musical details attract birds, butterflies and Torontonians alike. We did our Spring 2008 photo shoot on location at the Garden and always remember the first time we set foot in one of Toronto's most beautiful sites.

To Read: Martha Stewert Wedding CakesStacey recently got engaged so we thought it was fitting to share the perfection that is in this collection of wedding cakes. Nevermind her love for perfect little french pastries, the book is filled with beautiful pictures of every style of wedding cake. The first time we saw it we found every single cake that our freinds would have at their weddings.

To Eat: Utopia

Our go-to neighbourhood cafe. This affordable hot spot is always bustling with interesting folks and the menu selection never disappoints. A variety of vegetarian options for us veggie lovers and a gourmet burger that might be the best in the city keep us coming back, time and time again.

To Have: Moonrox- Vintage Locket Necklace

Stacey - I purchased this locket necklace over a year ago and it is still a favorite piece of mine. The intricate chain link and mix of delicate and solid pieces is stunning. I still haven't filled the many, many lockets with pictures but there is something so romantic and nostalgic about the vintage lockets all strung together, like they're just waiting for the moment to happen that one day will occupy their tiny space . Check out this and the rest of the Moonrox collection here.

Snapshot contest!

Help us launch our fan photo gallery by entering our snapshot contest! Send us snaps of your best Dagg and Stacey moments along with a little story and you could win a piece from our Spring/Summer 2009 collection. We'll choose our top five favourites and then open up the polls. In order to enter you must be one of our facebook fans. Here's what we would enter if we could.

Here we are the day of our shoot a little worse for ware after staying up all night. (can't you tell from the state of our studio?) I'm still as cozy as ever though in my Melton Wool coat.

Nokomis- Keeping it Canadian

Snapshots from Nokomis of a few Dagg and Stacey pieces.

What better way to celebrate Canada Day than to highlight one of our favorite Canadian stores? Nokomis, located on trendy Whyte Ave. in Edmonton, Alberta, is the quintessential Canadian clothing store, from its beautiful décor and friendly staff to the owners’ commitment to selling 100% Canadian designed and made pieces. This charming boutique is the perfect mix of nostalgia, femininity and elegance and is a definite must stop shop in Edmonton.

Beirut

Lately the studio has been filled with the music of Beirut. We've always had an affinity for the eclectic sound but it seams to really suit our mood these days. The new ep March of the Zapotec, with its Mexican death marches and the french pop and Balken folk of previous albums are totally in sync with what we are working on right now. Give it a listen if you haven't already. It won't dissapoint.
